Cherry Pie Pinot Noir is inspired by the original and iconic Pinot Noirs of the Burgundy region in France. Guided by the traditions of Burgundy, Cherry Pie is made to express California sensibilities and appeal—primarily ripeness and juiciness. This wine is for Pinot Noir lovers who appreciate the nuances of the variety as grown in California, but with the finesse and substance to make it alluring. Pinot Noir’s affinity to reflect and transmit terroir makes it a standout when it is grown in special places.
Cooler microclimates, like those found in Burgundy produce elegant, balanced wines. The Pinot Noir pioneers in California understood the importance of climate and soils to the winegrowing of great Pinot Noir. They identified the spots which were marine-influenced by fog and wind and with distinctive diurnal shifts—cool in the morning and evenings; warmer in mid-day. A wide diurnal range helps achieve balance for luxurious mouthfeel, aromatic complexity and lively flavors in the finished wine. These special places include the Carneros region in Napa/Sonoma, the cool hillsides of Monterey County just east of the Pacific Ocean and the marine-influenced vineyards of Santa Barbara. Pinot Noir’s affinity to reflect and transmit terroir makes it a standout from those places where we source the grapes for Cherry Pie.
Today, our Cherry Pie winemakers follow the practice of winegrowing in the best microclimates for the variety, farmed sustainably and vinified with minimal interference to let the quality of the Pinot Noir and the terroir in which it is grown shine through. Their recipe for success is to make Pinot Noir of complexity and balance but with plenty of juicy and delicious ripe fruit to the forefront. This is a pleasure-driven sipper to enjoy now, or stash in your cellar for enjoying when the time is right.
