Conte Placido

In medieval Italy, Florence and Siena were fierce rivals. Circa 1260 a.d. they engaged in the Battle of Montaperti. Conte {Count} Placido championed Siena in victory and for his valor was awarded Poggio alle Mura, the fortified hilltop originally secured by the Etruscans in pre-Roman times.
