Bakestone wines are an expression of the Cakebread Family’s experience of over four decades of winemaking in California, to produce enjoyable well-balanced wines from California’s cool North Coastal Valleys. The Bakestone name is a riff on their family name, Cakebread. The ancient name of Cakebread is derived from a name for a baker of fine bread or the maker of cakebrede, bread made in flattened cakes. “Bakestone” is a flat piece of stone or iron, also called a Planc that can be used for baking cakes, scones or tarts. Within the various vineyards that comprise Bakestone wines, Cakebread look for grapes with up-front fruit character and complexity that can be enhanced by ageing in French oak barrels and will finish with an uplifting freshness.
