Ferrière’s ambitious owner, Claire Villars, has taken what was one of the Médoc’s greatest disappointments to dizzying heights of quality and value-for-money in just two decades. Benefiting from a great terroir, Ferrière produces elegant, silky wines of real finesse.
Testing Nose :
“Fresh blackcurrant and blackberry jam aromas are complicated by notes of saltpeter and aromatic herbs. Rich and clean in the mouth, with juicy acidity and rising but polished tannins lifting the fresh red fruit flavors at the back. Nicely clean and aromatic but doesn't have the density for a higher score. If this fleshes out with bottle age, my score will look ungenerous.” Ian d'Agata
"Inviting, with a minty hint giving way to rounded plum and black cherry fruit. The finish is slightly toasted, but stays caressing, letting the fruit glide along. This has softened since the barrel tasting and should be ready to drink in the near term." Wine Spectator
