In almost a contradiction of terms this Pinot is both understated and revealing. The nose offers attractive red florals with hints of wild strawberries (due in no small part to the larger portion of whole berries in the ferment), black cherries and bramble. There is a lacing of sweet spices (liquorice, cloves, star anise) and an underlining subtle earthiness. The palate is very structured with layered tannins that are fine and persistent. Tipping its hat to the wines of Europe in the traditional sense, this wine is defined by a seductive yet elusive flavour profile that almost evades the aroma wheel of descriptors. Certainly a terroir driven style.
