Gran Sasso Sangiovese Terre Di Chieti IGT

The grapes for this wine are grown in the Chieti province of Abruzzo, on steep mountain slopes overlooking the Adriatic. Protected by Gran Sasso, Italy's highest peak, to the North, the vineyards are open to the moderating breezes of the Adriatic to the East. This helps to keep the fruit bright an fresh. After picking they are transported out of the region altogether to the Cantine Volpi winery near Tortona in the far east of the Piemonte region. The Cantina is a well respected and well established cooperative with a good reputation for high quality, value for money wines. They have rigorously high standards in the winery, but also, crucially, in the quality of the fruit they buy in from various different growers. This emphasis on quality fruit and good value is well reflected in this wine.
