Prodigy Shiraz
Katnook Prodigy Shiraz is one of the Estate's iconic wines, the other being Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2010, Prodigy was added to the prestigious Langton's Classification V in the "excellent" category and rated 96 points by Halliday.
Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz was first produced from young vines in 1997 and won the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show in 1998. It has since become a favourite among wine collectors. The fruit is predominantly drawn from a single vineyard plot planted on classic terra rossa over limestone soils. Viticulture is highly detailed with precise canopy management.
The Prodigy style is based on intensely flavoured but naturally balanced fruit. The wine is small batch-vinified in stainless steel fermenters. It is drained and pressed off into a combination of new French, new American and seasoned barriques for a period of around 24 to 30 months maturation.Optimum aging potential is 10-15 years.
