The Wine Advocate Verget's Grand Élevage label provides a home for declassified parcels from Guffens-Verget's best vineyard plots. The lion's share of the 2017 Bourgogne hails from Guffens' Pierreclos vineyards on clay soils. The balance comes from the neighbouring village, Bussières, from vines on a gentle, southeast-facing slope where the shallow soil is clay and limestone and very stony. The wine was vinified in barrel with 10% new oak; the fermentations ended in early December, and the wine's maturation continued for seven months with bâtonnage. It's a bright and chiselled, fresh white Burgundy that balances fleshy ripe stone fruit and zippy acidity with gentle minerality and a soft, mouth-filling texture.
