Story
On the border of the great terroirs of pomerol and saint emilion, in the place called maillet, the family estate grew from the determination of joseph and hermine dupuy - the grandparents – in the 1920s.
It was made up of plots from the three appellations of pomerol, saint emilion and lalande de pomerol and, at first, our grandfather called all the wines produced and vinified in the small cellar in pomerol, next to the modest house, - “le bon pasteur”.
It was only in 1978 that the name “rolland-maillet” was patented for the production of vines in the saint emilion appellation. the origin of the name is easy to understand – the association of the name and the place. Serge and geneviève rolland, the parents, progressively enlarged the original small estate by adding small plots; its current size is 3.35 ha of old vines on the beautiful terroir of the “corbin” area.
Grapes are still vinified at château le bon pasteur in enlarged, high-performance installations where they are dealt with the same care and selection made under the guidance and savoir faire of the house oenologists, dany and michel rolland.
Château rolland-maillet is a saint emilion of good origin, aged only in one-year old barrels, which gives charm and finesse to this small production of “grand cru”, estate bottled, without fining.
