Cakebread Vine Hill Ranch Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

A classic Napa Cabernet in every sense, the Vine Hill Ranch opens with aromas of cocoa, vanilla, and baking spice that gives way to notes of graphite and stony minerality before ripe blackberry, boysenberry, and cassis notes emerge. On the palate, the wine is cashmere smooth and displays a balance of ripe fruit and freshly turned earth notes.

VINEYARDS& VINTAGE

Grapes for this complex, robust wine come from three special blocks of vines grown in the renowned Vine Hill Ranch in Napa Valley’s western benchlands near Oakville. Oakville’s mornings are cool and foggy, but as the sun rises, the fog burns off resulting in warm, dry afternoons. The benchlands offer deep loamy soils and shade from the mountains to protect grapes from extreme heat and sun. These mature vines produce powerful, intense wines in these perfect conditions, with beautiful varietal expression, and a well-balanced structure of acidity and tannin.

WINEMAKING

We hand-harvested the Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet at night to ensure freshness and varietal purity. In the cellar, we ferment and barrel age each of the three vineyard blocks separately. Each lot was aged for 22 months in 56% new French oak barrels specifically selected to accent the unique attributes of Vine Hill Ranch’s Oakville terroir. Once we assess the individual attributes of each block, we blend to create a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine that honors its terroir with intensity and complexity.
