HISTORICAL
This Rosso di Montalcino was created in 2012 after several years of experimentation with the vines aimed at obtaining a high level wine. It now joins the other two wines in the estate line, Brunello Pian delle Vigne and the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vignaferrovia. The Pian delle Vigne estate is located to the north of the Orcia river valley, three and a half miles to the south of the town of Montalcino, and takes its name from a typical 19th century railroad station located within the confines of the property. The estate’s overall extension is approximately 470 acres (184 hectares), 160 of which (65 hectares) are planted to vines. The exposure of the vineyards is prevalently southeast and the altitude between 400 and 650 feet (130-200 meters) above sea level.
TASTING NOTES
A clear and brilliant ruby red in color, the wine shows aromas of ripe red fruit, plums, and quince jam, the characteristic floral notes of Sangiovese, and toasty and spicy sensations from ithe aging in oak. The palate is highly pleasurable, supple and with silky tannins. Its freshness and crispness are heightened by a savory, mineral aftertaste, which further reinvigorate the ripe fruit first felt on the nose.
